***UPDATE***
Love Walked In was the book club’s book of the month for February. It was supposed to give out feels (was it?) and it did, except that I felt the feels much later in the story. Or maybe it was just me because I didn’t really feel anything for Martin Grace. Sure, he was depicted to be Cornelia’s dream boy (did I just say dream boy? How high school, haha!) but I didn’t like him at all. I didn’t like him at the start — at ...more

I just finished this book and I can't believe how in love with it I am. It's one of those books you don't want to end. And, it's one of those books which is a perfect read for a day like today -- an early autumn Friday of non-stop rain when I unexpectedly had the day off and could read for hours, pausing in the evening 20 or 30 pages from the end just long enough to open a bottle of red wine and pour myself a big glass. It's not surprising to me to learn that the author is primarily a poet -- sh

Cornelia Brown is 5 feet tall, 31 years old, and a manager of a cafe despite her college diploma and major in English.
Clare Hobbes is they 11-year-old child of a divorce and a mother whose sanity is wearing away every day(she reminds me a bit of Meggie from Inkheart, actually, as she's in love with books).
How could their paths possibly cross?
By the man that wants to get closer to Cornelia and who was always pushed Clare away- Martin Grace, the father of said divorce. But Martin, sp ...more

For the second time in my life, I read this book in one lazy day. It has now been cemented in my heart as an all-time favorite. The best part is that I have the sequel, Belong to Me, waiting on my Kindle. Joy!
Having two readers worked well for the audiobook version of this book because it really helped make clear whether Clare or Cornelia was narrating. The book did a nice job of telling the two stories, but overall I didn't quite believe in the characters and found the story ultimately too cute. Clare, the over-thinking but not actually very resourceful child, tells the story of her mother's mental illness/eventual breakdown. Cornelia, the 30-something life-at-a-crossroads cafe manager, tells the st

This book ended up a lot better than it started off but I still feel like 3 stars is an accurate rating. The chapters go back and forth between Cornelia, a 31 year old woman who manages a coffee shop and is obsessed with old movies, and Clare, an 11 year old girl whose mother is slowly going crazy. The Clare chapters are good, the Cornelia chapters are annoying. Once their stories come together the book gets better and Cornelia becomes less annoying. Felt like there were some pretty big gaps but

I'd give this a very low 3-stars and was tempted to put it down many times.
I found Cornelia tedious and annoying but this might be because I'm not a movie person and can't identify with anyone that associates everything that happens in life with a movie they've seen.
I fell in love with Clare. If it weren't for wanting to know what happened to Clare, I'd have ditched the book. ...more

Enjoyed this quick read and I look forward to finishing her second book, Belong to Me. I really enjoyed the characters in this book. It took me a little while to get use to the flow of the book though. Each chapter is in first person of a different character and it flips. Once I got use to this though, it was a sweet little read.
I absolutely fell in love with this book. I was expecting light chick lit, but this book had me laughing out love and in tears. The characters are all so wonderfully developed and the storyline, while slightly predictable, does take a couple of twists. I very highly recommend this wonderful little piece of literature.
