Another book that everyone in the world read in high school, but I never did. I enjoyed it a lot! It was tough and gritty with some violence, but it wasn't littered with strong language for the "realism." S.E. Hinton did a great job of creating characters you really care about - and who learned and progressed throughout the story. Now I want to see the movie!

Wow!! Ms Hinton wrote this coming of age book when she was 16 ..way back in the 60's. (I graduated in '66 by the way). What young teen, Ponyboy, goes through most of us can identify with..friends, family (our own and our friends..functional and disfunctional) love, good vs evil, and death. The dated slang threw me off at first..ie: getting high meant having a few beers !!! Think you will "dig" this book if you are a greaser or a soc !!
