"“I’m in love with you, and I’m not in the business of denying myself the simple pleasure of saying true things. I’m in love with you, and I know that love is just a shout into the void, and that oblivion is inevitable, and that we’re all doomed and that there will come a day when all our labor has been returned to dust, and I know the sun will swallow the only earth we’ll ever have, and I am in love with you.”

"The Fault in Our Stars" is written for young adults, but it is one of those books that transcends age divisions.
Looking at it one way, you could simply categorize the book as a tear-jerker romance between two teens that have had cancer. However, more than that, the story is about Hazel and Augustus, two very real young people who are unique in their interests, personalities, and perspectives on life, who are not defined by having had cancer, but with whom we can experience and empathize with th ...more

Is it ok to not love a book about teenagers dying of cancer?? I liked most of the characters well enough and I got into the romance. I even thought the illnesses and reactions were authentic. But I'd guessed what plot twists there were very early on and some of the writing felt a bit indulgent to me. (Can I say that about a book about teenagers dying of cancer?) And I didn't even come close to crying. (I cry during Mother's Day card commercials. I even cried watching the movie Toy Story so it's

For a young adult book it was a good story, and therefore a quick read. I knocked it out in under 24 hours. It was easy to get attached to the characters. As someone who grew up with an uncle with Cystic Fibrosis, knowing he was going to die, just not when, this story was closer to home for me. He was 21 when he passed, (my aunt died from the same thing at 9,) and I know he tended to get into trouble, mostly because, he knew he had limited days so "why not?' I enjoyed reading a story from the pe

The Fault in Our Stars will make you cry. It will make you laugh. It will make you laugh and cry at the same time. I can not come up with any new words, sentences or thoughts that other reviews have not stated to describe how stupendous this book was.
My favorite quote:
“What a slut time is. She screws everybody.”

Oh, this was amazing! I was so engrossed I completely forgot what day and time it was and missed a work deadline...oops. Augustus and Hazel are both such gutsy characters, they could have had a great story even if there hadn't been a story.
