still wavering between a 4 and a 5 star read...will have the ponder - review to follow
Beautiful, funny, and so real. I feel like these characters actually exist. They hit close to home (literally too, Indianapolis is not far from Chicago, and I've been to Indy and enjoyed it). I need stories that deal with death and the meaning or pointlessness of life because I'm in that phase of my life now where I'm somewhat jaded, and I always appreciate real honesty when it comes to these topics - to show that I'm not alone in our superficial, super-happy-fun-times culture. Yes, it's a book about teens with cancer, but don't let that stop you from picking it up. This is a heartwarming, poignant tale of love found and lost in too short lives.

I reread this book a couple of days ago (and actually purchased my own copy.) It's held up since the first time I read it. I picked up on a lot more of Green's use of foreshadowing and other small details I missed the first time.
I just...really appreciate this book. I realize most people reading it only focus on Hazel and Gus, but having such a popular book (and soon, a movie) about something like teens with cancer is so huge. I only wish people understood the thoughts and desire ...more

wonderful!
This is a sweet, romantic, sad, serious story. I'd have to know the teen really well before I recommend this one. I think the poignancy of this story may even be lost on some adults. It is a beautifully written and very moving story.
