I'm pretty sure I read this for an adolescent psychology course. I dreaded it because I hate science fiction but was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. Not that I've ever finished the series..........

Effectively a prequal to the epic Lord of the Rings this is a much condensed version of Tolkien's writing while keeping the detail and depth of character as LofR. This is a great book if you need a Tolkien fix and have neither the time or energy to tackle LofR and is as enjoyable as the Trilogy.
