I really liked this book, but I could only read this book once in my life for it is so sad and depressing. I know that not all books can have happy ending nor can everyone be happy in the end. I think this book it touching in the fact that if feels like you are inside the head of someone who is truly going though a breakdown. I also know that today people are a little more understanding of metal health then when the book was written and so it is not as shocking as I expected it to be. I see how ...more

I usually reread this book at least once a year or so. I've seen it compared quite a bit to Catcher in the Rye, I'm guessing because of her snideness towards the world at large but I think that misses the point.
I think the point is that that is the way she sees the world because of her illness because after she is released from the hospital her view radically changes and becomes much more involved.

I went into this read expecting a classic/touching story and although it wasn't exactly what I expected it was still good in it's own way. What I loved about this read was the metaphors and the vivid descriptions! The Descriptions just gave you an incredible feeling or knowing exactly what things looked like to Esther etc..

Although loving those parts of the read I have decided to rate this book at a 3 stars. Simply for the reason that no matter if its a classic or not it took nearly 90 pages int

I noticed this book on a friends list and after reading the synopsis I decided to give it a go. I wasn't expecting it to become one of the best books I have read. I think it is easy to relate to the character Esther Greenwood, I am sure most of us have felt lost at some point in our lives and Plath's way with words helps show us her suffering. I liked Esther too, I found her to be a fascinating character who was witty and smart. A brilliant book that I think everyone should read.
