I can now see why everyone was so confused when I told them I was apprehensive because of the distopian undertones. I don't have a good track record with them. But if you're caught up with just the events, they can get missed. It turned out to be more simular to the Greatest Game than I thought it would be. Yes, with a Lord of the Flies flare. No Piggie, noooo.

I also have to say, I would have ended this two chapt I don't really know what to say. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Truly. I also have to say, I would have ended this two chapters earlier than it did. Why leave it there? Why not on the battlefield? I mean, it would have been an extremely climatic ending, and surely would not have me hesitating about continuing with the series.

Having it end on a relationship being ripped apart left a bad taste in my mouth. That fabric doesn't repair the same. Nor is it fair to say that in that heightened stress and survival state that true emotional bonding wouldn't occur. In fact, to better pair rabbits, they tell you to put them together in "high-stress" situations, such as traveling in the car, to help establish bonds between them. I understand her confusion, anyone would question the authenticity of those feelings.

But, I don't want to read about a teenaged love-triangle, espically by a girl would has had her identity crumble before her and is unsure with how to reconnect with and recognize her emotions. Yeah, pass. It changed the whole tone of book from survival, overcoming hardships and oppersion while still maintaining personal intergrity, to some confused, romantic trifle.

Maybe I should say why would I give this 5 stars when it wasn't original and an ending that fizzled in comparison to the rest of the book's set up?
*I felt it was well written. It's actually better than a number of books I have read recently.
*I actually finished this in a little over 24hrs. I didn't even read all day, as the page count and my reading rate would suggest.
*I could actually visualize what was being written. This next to never happens for me. Sure, a few sceens here and there, but not the entire book.
*Katniss is actually relatable. She's not after some sparkling vampire, overgrown warewolf, has some freakish supernatural skill, blindingly stupid, beyond sluttly... (wow, my standards for relatable sure are high)
*It was a gripping story. I was crying by chapter 2. I was cheering for Peeta (what kind I say, poor guy), for Rue. It even had a crazed villian, and the not so subtle "civilized" villians.

They are ingridents for a great book, or a heartattack. I can't exactly recommend this for anyone with a heart condition. There is just so much suspense! ...more

It's been a while since I stayed up to finish reading a book (ever since a few months ago when my morning sickness extends to reading!) and this is the first book I've found that I just could not put down!

The first few pages alone pulls you in by the description of life in the districts and how people relate to each other. Katniss' volunteering to save her sister will absolutely touch your heart. I resisted reading this book because of all the hype. Seriously, a book about reality TV gone apocalyptic? No, thanks. But, after hearing SO much about the book (and its sequels), I finally broke down. I fully expected to find this book pathetic and the heroine a whining, simpering idiot, like Bella from Twilight, but hooray, I was wrong!

Well, I read this series out of order but The Hunger Games is just as good as Mockingjay. And there has been enough time between the reading of the two books that, although I remembered that Katniss was the Mockingjay, I still enjoyed learning the back story. Suzanne Collins is a very skillful writer, who is able to keep the reader wanting to know more. I will keep reading this series. Very nicely written. ...more
