Wow, what can I say? It definitely lives up to the hype.
After having been recommended by so many GR friends, I finally decided to pick this book up. I choose the audiobook format, something I usually do when its a first person narrative, and to my luck, the narrator gave a fabulous performance.
I was riveted as I followed Katniss' adventure, both scared and appalled at the things she had to go through in order to survive. I cried over Rue's death, and giggled at some of the silly banter she had w ...more

I can’t believe how much I enjoyed this book; I just could not put it down. It had me hooked from the moment it began, and at the time I had no idea what I was getting into. All I knew was that the cashier at Chapters was adamant that I should read these books especially after the selection I was purchasing, and then there are the occasional reviews I would see pop up in my Goodreads feed. Apparently many people enjoyed this book, so I thought “alright, let’s give it a go”.

Just the idea of this book pushes it to a 3 before I even begin to rate it. It kind of reminded me of Survivor. Except, in Survivor they don’t kill each other. Briefly, the story is about Katniss, who voluntarily replaces her sister when she is chosen to represent District 12 in the Hunger Games. Every year, a boy and a girl from the age 12 to 18 from each district is chosen from a lottery to participate in the games. They are put in an “area” where they hunt each other. The last one to survive,

Wow, reading this one on your kindle makes it difficult to believe when you've hit the end. I kept tapping on the right, trying to make it to the next page/chapter. At least with the actual book in your hands you know the end is coming. Am I ever glad that I have all three books here. I think I'd be mighty annoyed if I read this when it first came out and found out that I had to wait for the next book to be finished. What a love story cliffhanger!

I was a little cautious going into this book. For the most part, I tend to veer away from young-adult novels. The subject matter and writing isn't really my cup of tea but a number of people have recommended this book and assured me that 'it isn't just a young-adult novel'. I decided to give it a try and was pleasantly surprised. The premise was decent, the characters were fairly interesting and the writing didn't have me cringing every few seconds. I think the thing that I enjoy most about the

Katniss Everdeen lives in a post-apocalyptic North America called Panem which is ruled by a capitol with 12 districts. Every year 2 tributes from each district are sent to the hunger games in a fight to the death. Katniss volunteers to take her sister Prim's place in the Hunger Games and is sent with Peeta Mellark, the bakers son. The book does a good job of setting up the land and once the games got started I couldn't put the book down. I'm looking forward to reading the next two books in the s

Read it in one setting, couldn't put it down as far as story-telling goes. I didn't give it a 5 though just because it reminded me of too many other plots, like Lord of the Flies, or more specifically, a short story I read a long time ago called "The Most Dangerous Game." Really dark and pretty disturbing for a YA novel, but infinitely better than Twilight. :) Friends are encouraging me to continue the series, so we will see.
