There's some debate among the reviewers about whether Gyasi accomplished her goal of giving us each generation of these families in a short story form which connected with previous and future generations. It certainly was successful for my reading. I needed to occasionally flip back to the family trees at the beginning or look at a previous chapter to make sure I was following correctly. But, that was not a problem. In general, this is one of my favorite books I've read this year. ...more
