I have always liked Doig's "historical" fiction -- starting with the pleasure I felt in discovering Dancing At the Rascal Fair years ago. So I was delighted at the publication of The Whistling Season, and it lived up to my hopes in the reading. This was one of those books I did not want to end because I wanted to continue being in Paul's and his family's lives.
