First off...this should be 4.5 stars!
I started reading this book and literally could not put it down - I HAD to know how it ended, so I was up until 4am devouring every moment. It was a long book and I've read a couple of the deleted scenes and really wouldn't have minded if it was even longer.
We had a chance to really get to know the characters - minor and major characters - they all worked so well together.

This book was so much more than I expected. It will wreck you in ways you can't imagine. Emma is only sixteen years old, she should be bouncy and happy like most girls her age, but she's living in her own personal hell, literally counting the days until she graduates so she can move out of the little cage she calls her life.
Living with her Aunt and Uncle since her father died and mother was seen unfit to raise her. Emma has been walking on egg shells at home, engulfing herself in every school ac This book was so much more than I expected. It will wreck you in ways you can't imagine. Living with her Aunt and Uncle since her father died and mother was seen unfit to raise her. Emma has been walking on egg shells at home, engulfing herself in every school activity she can, over achieving in every way possible to make sure that she can go away to college as soon as she graduates. Her guardians aren't exactly easy to live with.

“I managed to stay under the radar, skating through school without anyone truly remembering I was here. My teachers acknowledged my academic successes and my coaches depended upon my athletic abilities, but I wasn’t important enough to make a recognizable social contribution. I was easily forgettable. That’s what I counted on.”

Emma's only friend is Sara an amazingly popular girl who is truly the opposite of everything Emma is. Emma has no interest in having any friends besides Sara until one day when Evan Matthews pushes his way into her life and makes her feel something she's never felt before.
Slowly Evan learns more and more about Emma and her life and the excruciating reality of it all.

This book was so intense. It was like I was literally watching a movie in my head. When the scenes got really intense between Emma and her Aunt Carole, I was literally cringing and grimacing the whole time reading those parts.
I was nervous for Emma at every turn of the page, I was scared for her, and worried about her as if I were her best friend. I felt so un-done over what was happening to her.

This is definitely and intense read, but so well worth it. It was deeper than I ever imagined, and no review I could write would ever do it any justice, you just have to read it and feel it all for yourself.
But know that it will touch you in ways you never could have imagined.

I had a hard time rating this book and reading it. It is a captivating book. It is darker than what I normally read, and I keep reading in hopes for a happy ending...it didn't come. So now I don't have much time to review cause I have to go to the next book. I can't wait. It is like a train wreck you want to look away and you can't.

It is beautifully written and everything it is just a tough subject to read about.

I have mixed feelings about this book, I like it but I don't at the same time. It was a real page turner and very hard to put down don't get me wrong but I guess I just don't understand the way the people think in this book. Take Emma I really don't understand how her continuously getting hurt is helping the family to stay together, people will eventually notice (which they do) and would eventually tear apart the family anyways.
