It's been a week since I finished this and I still don't know how I feel. It was beautiful and tragic. I LOVED Holder!! He was so amazing. Sky was awesome!

Some of the book was difficult to read. It is not a story you read to get the warm and fuzzies. It's emotional, tragic, sad and beautiful all rolled into one. ...more

I am ashamed to admit that this is my first Colleen Hoover book. I’ve seen her books around and they’re on my TBR list but with all the other books out, they keep getting pushed further down the list (I’ll have to remedy that…and soon).

With that said, I loved this book. I wasn’t sure what to expect. The description doesn’t do it justice because I wasn’t completely sold on it. But, it sounded decent…another book for the TBR list. Then Jenn read it. She started telling me about the book and about I am ashamed to admit that this is my first Colleen Hoover book. I’ve seen her books around and they’re on my TBR list but with all the other books out, they keep getting pushed further down the list (I’ll have to remedy that…and soon).

With that said, I loved this book. I wasn’t sure what to expect. The description doesn’t do it justice because I wasn’t completely sold on it. But, it sounded decent…another book for the TBR list. Then Jenn read it. She started telling me about the book and about Holder. She started sending me little quotes and before I knew it, I was hooked on Holder…without having read the book. I vowed to myself that I would go home and immediately download it to my kindle and start reading. But alas, that didn’t happen. Other books popped up and again pushed this book back down. It looked like its chances of being read were hopeless (sorry for the pun). Well, after finishing a couple of books, a friend mentioned that she was thinking of starting this book. I asked her if she wanted to do a buddy read and my path was set. I was finally reading Hopeless.

Now, things didn’t start off too well. When I first started the book, I fell asleep before finishing the first page. I was worried. I didn’t have much hope that I would enjoy it. But, I quickly found out it was more exhaustion than the book. Once I restarted it, I was hooked. I couldn’t/didn’t want to put it down. I was now cursing the fact that I suggested a buddy read. Thankfully, my buddy was also hooked.

I loved Sky. She was so real. She actually reminded me of me. While I have technology, I’m woefully out of date when it comes to cell phones. Mine is only good for phone calls and texts. Nothing fancy here. And her idea of a good time…baking and reading…I definitely can relate to that. I loved Sky’s relationship with her friends Six and Breckin. Both of them were great friends…and actually reminded me of some of my friends. They definitely cracked me up.

What can I possibly say about Holder? Well, as I said…I was hooked on him before picking up the book. He is probably one of my favorite book heroes. I loved every moment of him. And the way he felt about Sky…wow. I don’t think there are enough words to adequately describe how much I enjoyed reading about him. And when I found out Holder was getting his own version of Hopeless…I was over the moon. It will definitely be a must read.

Holder and Sky’s interactions had me cracking up. They both have such a sarcastic sense of humor that you can’t help but laugh at their conversations!

There are definitely some serious elements in this book, I don’t want to ignore that. But, I’m not going to focus on it either. It’s something that shouldn’t be spoiled, something that each reader should discover for themselves. So with that said, my heart broke for all impacted. There were times I was close to tears and my stomach was in knots. I admire how the characters dealt with the situation and how they moved past it. The elements were something that slowly built over the course of the book. The author did a great job with it…hinting then confirming what I suspected. I was really impressed with her storytelling ability.

This book is definitely a book that deserves to be read in one sitting. It is a roller coaster ride from start to finish. For anyone on the fence about this book, it’s a must read. Don’t hesitate, just buy it and read. You’ll enjoy the ride.

Hopeless

Writing a review that will do this book justice is truly hopeless. I am finding that the books I love the most are sometimes the hardest for me to review. How do I put into words the feelings that an amazing book brings on? I finished Hopeless last night, slept on it, thought about it all day and still, I am not sure how to express my feelings about this story.

How do I put into words the feelings that an amazing book brings on? I finished Hopeless last night, slept on it, thought about it all day and still, I am not sure how to express my feelings about this story.

If you’re familiar with Colleen Hoover, you’re probably a fan. After reading Slammed and Point of Return, I was a fan. After reading Hopeless, I am now a Colleen Hoover junkie. This author seriously knows how to hypnotize the reader into worshiping the characters she has created; they will weave themselves into your brain and more importantly your heart…every time. But, out of all three of her books, Dean Holder & Sky Davis take the cake. Their story is more than the average bear…it has seared a mark on my heart. It was heartbreakingly beautiful.

I wish I could tell you more about why this book touched me, but to do so would honestly ruin the intense discovery of their story. Taking this journey was like putting together a puzzle; it kept me guessing until that last piece was put into place. I had suspicions, fears and hopes of what might happen but it didn’t prepare me for how I FELT about the final unveiling of what really did happen. In a word it was: intense.

This book made me: smile, extremely sad, angry, giddy, swoon, gave me butterflies, feel scared about what I was witnessing but most of all it made me hopeful. I kept thinking to myself do Dean Holder & Sky Davis exist in the real world? Could two people honestly be this brave and strong? Could two people be this resilient? Could two people find such beauty in the face of profound ugliness and sadness? I have decided yes. I HAVE to believe that because it was so beautiful and moving that I can’t bear the thought of them not truly existing somewhere out there. To not believe, would be simply devastating. I took strength from their story that I will hold onto and try not to ever forget.

Wow... that't really all I can say. I have to say that my initial instinct was that one of the things happened to Sky then I thought it was the other. Nothing could have prepared me for everything that would happen to both she and Holder. I found myself gasping and covering my mouth with several things were revealed.

And wouldn't life be wonderful if we could all have a Holder in our lives? True honesty to any question and response? I can't even imagine it. Only because I've read second offerings from other authors whom I've loved the first book(s) only to be disappointed by the second. This wasn't the case at all.

I laughed in a lot of places and was really heartbroken in others. I couldn't read it fast enough to know how it all was going to end. I kept trying to find spoilers and have to say that all the reviewers and bloggers were good about not giving anything away, which I'm trying to do the same here. I have a habit of talking about the characters like they are real people and questioning what they do. I don't want to do that here, because I want to encourage anyone who's thinking of reading this book to do so for themselves and to experience what the story has to offer.

I love how good Colleen is at making each character whole. I don't wonder who they are or why they are part of the story no matter how minor they are. She seems to weave them in to make the time we are with them worth their time in the story. I've read so many books where minor characters are mentioned, but I have no idea why the were discussed, shown or what they mean to the story. Even Six was clearly part of this story from beginning to end. You get her place in Sky's life and what she meant to it even though she was out of the country for most of the book and her interactions took place mostly in texts or conversations about her with other people. That's true talent of an author who makes the smallest character mean something to the entire story.

I literally just finished Hopeless 5 minutes ago, and I ran to my computer to write this review while I'm still on my super sonic giddy high that this book left me in.

Like always this book has been popping up all over my facebook wall to read! I purchased it last night and read till 3 am, only to wake back up this morning to finish it off.

What an awesome story, I absolutely l LOVED it and I think it is one of the best books I have read in a long time! I have definitely found a new author that I love. I found myself unable to put this book done and finished in a just a few hours. I could rant and rave all day but I am afraid that eventually I will let something out that will spoil the story for others. I just hope others find it as thoroughly enjoyable as much as I did.
