Pre-read: I've been on the hold list for 8 weeks now and I'm so ready for this! I'm hoping it's something new because even though I loved Brom's work, I'm really looking for something original to read, something that hasn't been done before.
After-read: Amazing. I really love Brom's work. This is how I imagine witches and Gods being mistaken for evil when they're balance. Beautiful art, beautiful story.

Maybe actually 3.75 stars but I’ll round up.
What a bizarre little book! Most of it I loved, some of it I hated but that was supposed to be the feelings it inspired, so it worked. A story about a rebellious Puritan woman and a forest entity with an identity crisis. They reluctantly team up and the results are both beautiful and terrifying. I’m still kind of confused by a lot of the mythos around “Sampson”, like what he actually is. Maybe it’s supposed to be a little vague and mysterious. Either ...more
