I loved this little gem of a book!!!!
It is about a man who is just living: he works, comes home, he takes of cat, and then, it’s rinse and repeat. Then, he gets a secret assignment to go assess magical children at an orphanage ran by his employer. Here he meets the anti christ, a nome, a shapeshifter, and so much more. These “scary” children begin to bring color into Linus’ life. He also realizes that he might have feelings for man who runs the orphanage and Linus begins to question his objecti ...more

Cute story about a case worker in charge of magical youth investigating an orphanage.
The story is really about finding yourself and your voice and in this case a family and where you belong.
I really wished there was more world building. Where are the magical people from? Why are there regulations and registry’s? Why is a female gnome a weird thing?
It’s fun to see Linus’s personality change as the book goes on. He starts so drab and boring in the beginning.
Overall it was a quick cute read.

One of my favorite stories in a long time! It is such a sweet telling of a man who isn't happy with his life and he doesn't even know it. When it does hit him, he begins a new chapter in his life. Filled with magical creatures, acceptance, love, work issues, it was near perfect. I can't wait to read it again, and I don't do that usually. I LOVED the narrator, Daniel Henning!!! He was great at all the voices - especially Chaunsey. If you need a sweet, feel-good book, this is the one for you.
