The Surgeon is a brilliantly-crafted tale of horror that's just so terrifying that you can't bear not to look. Seriously.

After watching the Rizzoli & Isles TV series, I picked this one up out of curiosity and am really glad I did. Gerritsen is an excellent writer and kept me enthralled throughout the novel. The Rizzoli character is quite different from the TV series character, but there are certain similarities. (Isles does not appear until the next novel.

I am looking forward to reading more.

Tess Gerritsen is the master of the medical thriller in the 21st century and The Surgeon proves it. The fact that she herself is a doctor, as well as an author, adds an authenticity to the book that is unparelleled. Very rarely do I read a book that actually scares me but this one did.

I enjoyed this book. The author has the talent to set up suspense without resorting to artiface (ahem Kathy Reichs). A good mystery with a nice twist. I haven't ever seen the tv show, so no comparison can be made here. ...more

The Surgeon was suspenseful and kept me interested from start to finish. I plan on reading the entire series. I have read a few out of sequence and have enjoyed the character development of both Rizzoli and Isles.
