I adored this book. I spent all of New Year's Eve day immersed in it, I did not want to put it down. It was magical and bittersweet and unpredictable and enthralling. My heart went out to all the characters, I felt the cold of Alaska, the yearning of the couple for a child, I loved the mystery of the snow child herself, I felt the heartbreaks and the joy. This book was such a treat! I loved the fact that the story is based upon a Russian fairytale - it certainly had a magical vibe. I was very taken with the characters, the story, and the setting. The setting was probably one of the things I loved most - Eowyn Ivey made the Alaskan wilderness come alive. It was certainly a character in the book as much as any of the people. I didn't enjoy this one as much as many of the readers in my online bookclub did. The story was pretty well told, but the two main narrators weren't fleshed out as well as I would have liked. A lot of their actions and thoughts were one dimensional and over dramatic IMO. I did enjoy the physical descriptions of their life, and a couple of the secondary characters were well written.
