This book was the literary version of the fantastic 80s movie "The Money Pit" starring Tom Hanks and Shelly Long: fun with disastrous home repairs at every turn.

I really wanted to give this book 4 stars because it did make me laugh out loud in several spots. Being a child of the 80's I loved the nostalgia of John Hughes and his amazing movies. Unfortunately 174 (not important to the story) footnotes in 304 pages is excessive and highly distractive. So I had to drop my rating down to a 3.
