I have to admit, as someone leery of the fantasy/sci-fi genre, I picked up this book for my reading group with great trepidation. While it took me about one hundred pages to get into the story, I became completely absorbed by Kvothe's tale and found myself enthralled by his life as a young adult as he relays it to the Chronicler. This is a fantasy accessible to anyone, really; Rothfuss writes a beautiful story that is at turns witty, sad, and gripping. In fact, he is already being compared by cr

This was one giant chunkster of a novel! I got through it surprisingly quickly though. The story follows Kvothe as he relates memories of his early youth, spent learning "magic" at the Arcanum (university). As a teen, he gets into a lot of trouble, experiences a lot of angst and dreams of becoming a "hero". I LOVED this book. In fact I was given this book as a Mother's Day gift and within 100 pages ordered the next one so I would not have to have that dreaded hang-over you get when you are forced out of a beautifully woven tale. It took me a long time to read--mostly because I got interested in other books and put this one down for a while. This is the first of a trilogy. I don't know if I'll read the second. It is shorter (I think), so maybe.

I was so looking forward to reading this book, and it did not disappoint. I loved the world created by Rothfuss and his writing style. I'm so thankful that I don't have to wait for two years for the 2nd book. I'm anxiously awaiting March.
