This was an absolutely engrossing book, I loved the characters deeply, and the fact that they were real people and carried out their dangerous missions and risked their lives against the Nazis in an effort to free the French people from their crushing yoke just made it all the more compelling. I am not usually a fan of World War II books, but this one was very good! It tells a (mostly) true story of Nancy Wake, an Australian woman who joined the French Resistance. She was tough and smart. The book covers her life before, during, and after the war. The timeline frequently skips back and forth between her pre-war life and her actions during the war. I randomly pulled this off a shelf at my local bookshop and was not disappointed. Great female protagonist, excitement, heart, it just has everything. I laughed, I cried, I stayed up way too late to finish it. AND Nancy Wake (Helene from the title) was real. And her pic on Wikipedia is exactly as I pictured here throughout the book.
