I just LOVED this book. It totally and utterly lived up to the hype! From the moment, I started reading it, I didn't want to put it down and I stayed up until 2:30 a.m. to finish it despite the fact that I had to get up at 6 a.m.! And it was worth missing every moment of sleep!
I was worried about the format of the book - a series of letters - which I often find to be a less than perfect format. But, this one blew me away. I LOVE Juliet and every single Guernsey character was spot on! I'm amazed ...more

A lovely and lively little book about the pleasures of reading and the value of empathy, and how one begets the other.

I just wanted to cozy up with this book, shut away the outside world and delve deeper into the reality of Juliet and the folks of Guernsey following the German Occupation of the Channel Islands. This novel is a series of letters written between Juliet, her publisher, friends and the members of the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. There is something intimate about reading the correspondence between other people; it's like a secret invitation into their world. Once I started reading,

I have to say the title kept me away from this book for the longest time. Its HARD to say and read. It just doesn't roll off the tongue. But after reading so many GREAT reviews of the book, I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did.
This is a truly wonderful little novel; I loved the "voice", the feel, and of course, all the great characters. The principal character, Julie, is unique, warm-hearted and funny. I loved her quick wit and wry humor. All of the other characters offer a "change of voic ...more

An absolute pleasure! I love books about books. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is a book about life-long friendships and friendships in the making.
I loved the unique writing style of telling the story strictly through letters. I felt like I became friends with the characters too. At first I was unsure about the book due to the hype that it received, but it is truly worthwhile. Highly recommended!

Fantastic story told through letters about the effects of WW2 on an interesting group of people brought together through circumstance who form a complex bond. The characters are so likable and the letters so charming, I couldn't put this one down. A completely different take on the Occupation with a good story with it to boot, I would say this is a must-read and would be great for high school students too (who usually read Night by Elie Wiesel). I was hesitant with the hype, but this one lives u

I wasn't expecting to like this book, but I really did. The story is told through a series of letters, which was unique and added to the reading experience. Very quick, easy read.

I didn't know exactly what to expect from this book, but had been hearing so many folks say such great things. After listening to The Help, with multiple narrators, I wasn't quite as hesitant to give Guernsey a chance as an audiobook. I absolutely loved the narrators picked for the various characters. I didn't give this 5 stars because the biggest point I had against the book was that it didn't allow for as much three-dimensional characters as in some other books. However, I think the best point

I really enjoyed the style of the book. It was totally written as letters and telegrams between the characters in the book. It really gave an intimate feeling and like you were glimpsing in on someone's life. Like finding a stack of old letters in the attic when you move to a new house.

I loved this book. I think it took me so long to read because I didn't want it to end. The characters were wonderful and each one of them had something heartfelt to say to me. The story was told in a very unique way through the letters of friends and sometimes strangers to the narrator, Juliet, and from Juliet to them. Juliet is very wise and kind and very funny in my opinion. Her story of the people of Guernsey and how they were effected by the German occupation of their island is wonderful. I

I quite liked this. Again I am left wondering how much of the historical part is true -- I don't know anything about Guernsey. If it is true, it is fascinating! I also like the structure of how the book is put together -- clever without being cloying.
