I started and stopped this book several times in text format because it was such a difficult subject. This is a brutal book, but it was very well written and read in the Audible edition. The story was excellent.

I was a bit hesitant about this novel. Not sure if I would really enjoy it. I like the genre in general but they tend to be 3 star reads for me and I was hoping for something a bit more. Well, I was pleasantly surprised with this novel. It was a wonderful book. This novel is difficult to categorize given that its a political thriller, a murder mystery and a horror story all in one. Child 44 is a terrifying book that makes for a fantastic summer read, especially if you don't have to work in the morning so you can stay up all night reading.

I found some of the material to be extremely difficult to read, and this story is certainly not for the faint of heart, but the intricacies of the plot and the horrors of the government kept me turning pages...one night until 3am.

I will be reading the second book, because yes, this did hook me! ...more
