It took me a bit to get into this novel (50-100 pages or so) but once I did, I was IN. The best part of this novel is Alaska – the place is as much a character as anyone else. Not ground-breaking but a solid page-turner of a story.

I usually steer clear of these massive best sellers that show up everywhere. I generally find them to be entertaining, yes, but not very well written, the story line done better before, etc. But I picked this up and I really enjoyed it. The female leads are strong and they grow and evolve and are real over the course of 15 years in the novel, and their relationship grows and changes, as relationships between people do.

I am still a little turned off by the relationship between Matthew and Leni.
