This is a book that I’ve been hearing about since the moment it was released. It’s gotten so much buzz that I was almost hesitant to read it because it might not meet up to my expectations. Incredible. If anyone you know has ever had difficulty putting themselves in the shoes of the Black Lives Matter movement, tell them to read this book immediately. This will be a classic within a few years.

Everyone should read this book. It conveys more about what is happening in this country on a daily basis than all the news reports, articles, nonfiction works. As I read it, it took me back to the daily reporting from Ferguson, but from the inside. This is a very personal book, with characters that feel like people you come to know and about you care deeply. My 12 year old devoured this book in two sittings and set it on my tbr stack and said read it. Amazing. So good. This is such a great treatment of a really complicated issue that Thomas deftly treats. Recommend this to all parents and especially all their teenaged kids.
