Reading this book was an uphill battle. I started it a while back, had not even gotten it listed on my “currently reading” on GR before my son snagged it without a “by-your-leave” or an word to me. So I hunted, but moved on and figured it would reappear. Which it did, and so I duly put it on my cr list, expecting such a short book would get easily finished by yours truly. Hah. I really struggled with this novel. After hearing so many raves about it, I think I was expecting much more than I actually found during reading it. I just didn't 'get' it. I am not sure what I missed but I never connected with the story, the world created by the author or the characters. I kept waiting to 'get' it but I never did.

Not quite as interesting as the dust cover and reviews would suggest. Good premise, but it just didn't "click" with me. Probably won't continue the series. Don't get me wrong; the writing is fine, and the story line OK - it just wasn't for me.

This book is like reading poetry, for me at least. I can read and understand the words, but it all feels very symbolic and representative. Is Area X a vast government conspiracy, is it otherworldly, or are the explorers of the area just completely brainwashed? It's hard to say, and even with the crescendo at the end, I still don't really know what's going on. Half of me despises this, the fact that I don't know what's going on, and half of me wants to keep reading to find out more. Don't know if
