What Members Thought
This was an easy to read, enjoyable story. I liked some of Meyer's vampire concepts, the characters, and the bit of suspense and action at the end.
However, I must make a confession. This isn't my genre. I'm good with vampires, though I don't read them a lot. It's romances I have a problem with.
I liked Bella, but I'm not sure why she is so "unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him." To me his character seems somewhat flat. He loves Bella because her blood smells good, and he's intrigued ...more

If you accept it for what it is (a dramatic debut YA paranormal romance) this book is enjoyable. Stephenie Meyer's writing improves greatly throughout the series. However, if you aren't sure it's worth the time, the movie is fairly accurate to the plot and dialogue.
Pace: leisurely paced (slow, very slow)
Plot: character-driven (ish)
Tone: angsty, amusing, romantic, dramatic

I've read this book multiple times. I used to love it when I was younger. This time around, I can see how co-dependant and red flagged the relationship between Edward and Bella is. I didn't enjoy it 😕
