all the reviews of this novel in the mainstream press (NYT, NPR) focus on the historical phenomenon of orphan trains, not on the quality of the writing. after reading 1/3 of this book, i think i know why. there's not much "there" there in terms of literary voice or stylistic uniqueness. this book feels like an after school special from the 70's or 80's. the teenage Molly character is unlikeable and irritatingly superficial. the Vivian character initially seems to have more depth, but i'm not wil
