I re-read this book for a book club. I read it a long time ago while in High School and wasn't that impressed by it then. I'm still not overly impressed.
The story is basically about the five daughters of a mother who is basically OBSESSED with getting them married off as quickly as possible.
The story focus's around Darcy and Elizabeth who basically meet each other on the first page and wind up together on the last page. So VERY TYPICAL of the romance genre. BORING in other words...

How have I never read this before? This was obviously romantic, but I was surprised at how funny it was too. A slog at times, but the slow pace allows the relationship between Elizabeth and Darcy to develop very organically. I see now why it's such a blueprint for modern romance stories.

I had previously read Austen's Emma and loved it. The characters in that book were delightful and quite funny. This book was very disappointing in comparison. It was tough to slog through some of the paragraphs and if you were not paying attention you would loose the meaning. The minor characters of mr. Colin's and Lydia were entertaining and saved me from hating this book. The ending is unsatisfying as it is ambiguous as to the fate of some of the more intriguing plot points. first time Austen
