Life through the eyes of an aging butler...

I am both completely fascinated and profoundly saddened by the character Mr Stephens. Here is a man who belongs nowhere... he is unable to relate to his common man, has no idea of the lives and concerns of his working class countrymen, but was never comfortable discussing the high ideals and politics of the men he served with such incredible devotion. The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro is a literary fiction and award-winning novel that was written in 1989. After having been introduced to this author after having completed Klara and the Sun a few years back, I was instantly a fan. With almost three decades between these two novels, I was curious to see how well such an older novel held up. I highly recommend this book. Very well written the flow of story was smooth and never boring. The definition of dignity really was enlighting and the ending was as enjoyable.
