Excellent.
Not that I would know whether or not Fountain got into the head of an American soldier, but I really loved the understated-ness of this book, and how much psychological damage was hinted at without being directly approached. The analogy between war and football wasn't overblown or heavyhanded, just brief and well-stated. The randomness and injustices of wartime were well-conveyed peripherally (I imagine).

I was shocked by how much I liked this. It didn't sound at all like my cup of tea, but Billy's internal monologue is funny and heart-wrenching and childish and confused and dazzlingly human.
