What Members Thought
Moving, frank, and often funny, this book doesn't rely on cancer archetypes to make its point. At first, I worried that John Green couldn't possibly construct a true representation of what Hazel and Augustus would think and feel, but realized that if I held every book to this standard, I would lose many of my favorites. I think Green was right when he prefaced the book by saying that stories needn't be true to have value. An excellent read.

I don't usually read YA, which is probably why I only give this book 4 stars. It is devastating and beautiful and set in my hometown (!). It was fun to pick out some of the places I know in the story. Green does an awesome job dealing with all the mixed feelings that come with human life and tragedy...the beauty and happiness that get mixed into the mundane and the terrible. Still, it has what I consider a typical YA narrative voice, a little snark and sarcasm mixed in with some good one-liners.
