One of the best books, YA or otherwise, that I've read in quite some time -- maybe ever. A book about first love and loss that is hilarious, extremely intelligent, never condescends, and manages to be alternately heart-wrenching and heart-touching without resorting to trite sentimentality. I flew through this one in several hours and cried no less than six separate times (although, that is maybe not the best indicator of quality... I cried a couple of times during Free Willy as well). I don't want to rate this. I only want to say, 1) waterworks, and 2)the writing wasn't that good. There were 2 voices: teenager and adult, and everyone in the book had one of these voices - the adult with the teenager voice being, of course, the seemingly cold but finally relatable adult, van Houten.

BEST BOOK I'VE READ THIS YEAR! Listen, its a book about kids with cancer. But really, it's not a cancer book I swear! It's funny, I mean laugh out loud on the metro funny! It's one of those books that makes you wish you were friends with these characters. When I finished the last paragraph, I instantly turned right back to the first page and started again!
