This was fabulous - a hilarious romp through Victorian London, featuring vampires and werewolves who have been fully integrated into society. I laughed out loud more than I can tell you. Our heroine, Miss Alexia Tarabotti, is a very proper young lady, on the shelf for quite some time. As such she is a bluestocking and does as she sees fit. This includes sneaking away at balls, sneaking out of the house in the middle of the night and just generally acting scandalously modern for her mother's tast ...more

Buffy the vampire slayer in Victorian England. That about sums up how cool this book is. I really enjoyed getting lost in the steampunk world, and the spunky main character. I enjoyed this so much that I'm going to read the rest of the series. And that isn't normal for me. ...more

I liked it, but not enough to continue with the series. I know a lot of people rave about the writing, but the style was actually a little off-putting for me at times and took me out of the story 🤷🏻‍♀️

What fun! Alexia is a wonderful character and one I am going to enjoy reading more about. Alexia has accepted her lot in life: 1. soulless 2. spinster (Italian father) However, when she is rudely attacked by a vampire, she whips out her trusty parasol and hair pins. When she accidentally kills the vampire she has to deal with Lord Maccon, a loud, messy, gorgeous werewolf - who has no idea how to deal with her. Very tongue in cheek and a bit steamy.

This was a lot of fun! I didn't perhaps love it quite as much as everyone else seemed to, but it kept me thoroughly entertained in a situation where I badly needed to be entertained (i.e. a very long doctor visit). I suspect it would be a solid 4 stars on audio with a good reader...

One of these days I'll get around to reading the rest of the series...

This book was a pleasant surprise. I really enjoyed the lead female character as well as the victorian setting and steampunk element.

Ten pages of bad prose is more than enough for me, thank you. The other reviews don't indicate any good reason to stick it out. ...more
