The collected first five issues of the Fables series, I really enjoyed this quick read. It's a blend of fantasy (fractured/updated fairy tale) and noir mystery, and has some light political stuff going on as well (an adversary took over all of the Fables' kingdoms, forcing them to live in exile, undercover in New York). Way better than I was ever prepared for. Willingham is a great weaver of tales. I thoroughly enjoy fairy tales and this is the best one yet. I had a strong feeling that this was going to be very similar to the TV show Once Upon A Time and boy was I surprised. This graphic novel surpasses all expectations!
I was SUPER excited to read this book, but it ended up being a huge let down. I'll still go forward with the series, hoping it improves, but this book is a big disappointment.
