[Review from 2004.] This is so the year of Salinger for me; I've read Catcher in the Rye & Franny and Zooey so far, and now this. I particularly loved getting more Glass family stories, after F&Z. The tone & quality varies a lot here, but I really liked "A Perfect Day for Bananafish," "For Esme, with Love and Squalor," "Down at the Dinghy," and "Teddy." I've also been enjoying finding connections between Salinger and Wes Anderson's films (The Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore).

After finishing 4 of the 9 stories in one sitting, I needed a break to psyche up for the rest. Nine Stories (published in 1953, two years after Catcher in the Rye). You probably know, Salinger has an acerbic style. I guess it's honest writing, reflecting unsavory characteristics. After working to accept the story characters, for each of the first 4 stories, I got a little stop-kick at the end.
