Read it on Gutenberg. Listened to David Clarke's recording on LibriVox. I can't say that this one is my top Sherlock Holmes favorite. But it's a great introduction to Sherlock Holmes and his methods. ...more

This is my very first reading for Sherlock Holmes. He was introduced to me through Detective Conan's anime where the main character (Kudo Shinchi) was a crazy fan for Holmes and used to mention him in every case, how he will think, what will he do, how will he treat the matter and so on. This is my very first reading for Sherlock Holmes. He was introduced to me through Detective Conan's anime where the main character (Kudo Shinchi) was a crazy fan for Holmes and used to mention him in every case, how he will think, what will he do, how will he treat the matter and so on. From that moment, I became amazed of his talent and intelligence and wanted to know more. Then, as I started my reading challenge and found his series which I couldn't start reading until now in the yearly challenge for my reading group.

I first saw him on screen in Disney's (The Great Mouse Detective). Just like what's expected from a detective, he was sharp, swift and smart. Dr. Watson was just there from the beginning and the case was amazing. I mean, duh. Disney and classic animation. It's a win.

The second one was (Sherlock Holmes) Live-action movie, where Robert Downey Junior plays the main Detective's role. That movie was so so sooo good and that made me really love Holmes more. His IQ was so high he can see the solution before even hearing the whole case. So smart that the world became boring for not finding anything of his level.

And then finally, I read the original book. I was actually surprised, I know he is brilliant and whatnot but it felt kinda odd how full of himself he is. I thought the meeting between him and Dr. Watson had like a super story but it was an average one. The story goes as so, they meet each other since both of them are looking for a roommate. Then, the detective receives the news about a murder in an empty house and goes to take a look to find the dead man with something written on the wall with blood along with a wedding ring and a burnt candle. The story is divided into two parts. First one in London where the crime took place, the other one in USA where the deeper story for the case is told. I gotta say, the long details in the first part kinda bored me but the second part was interesting and sad in the same time. Oh god! I'm so glad that the events took place as they did. Sometimes, you have to do justice yourself.

Sherlock Holmes is the very first detective I knew through Detective Conan. Since he was standing alone in the filed, he seemed amazing. Now, after all the other ones I got to know through reading like Hercule Poirot from Agatha Christie, Joseph Muller and even Miss Marple the female detective, Holmes is just .... the first one with brain.
