Supernaturally is the lighthearted sequel to Paranormalcy , a book with an upbeat, quirky main character with a killer style sense and a witty sense of humor. Evie has finally broken free from the International Paranormal Containment Agency. She’s finally gotten the life she’s always wanted: nice, normal, and boring. High school. A job. A boyfriend. The problem is, the first two are kind of making her miss her old life, which consisted of bagging and tagging paranormal threats to humans. Evie has finally broken free from the International Paranormal Containment Agency. She’s finally gotten the life she’s always wanted: nice, normal, and boring. High school. A job. A boyfriend. The problem is, the first two are kind of making her miss her old life, which consisted of bagging and tagging paranormal threats to humans. But Evie soon finds herself being dragged back into the IPCA, only half-unwilling, and soon discovers that there’s a plot brewing that she is the center of.

This book was better than the original in many ways. I think that, for one, Evie is finally beginning to grow up a bit. Sure, her wide-eyed optimism about normal teenage life is endearing, and her enthusiasm for all things pink and sparkly, while annoying, showed that you don’t have to be some butch, hardass chick in order to kick some serious supernatural butt. And Evie totally delivers on the hardass department, too. I really liked that she refused to be the damsel-in-distress, and whenever she could, she took matters into her own hands. Plus, I definitely laughed out loud several times throughout the book, which showed that Evie’s sharp sense of humor had only improved between books.

Supernaturally sees Evie’s world, and the supernatural creatures in it, vastly expanded upon. You really start to see the threads that were put in place in the first book starting to be woven together to create a much more involved story arc. I loved witnessing the dynamic of Evie and Lend’s relationship. Even though I loved Evie’s ex, Reth, so much, I really do love Evie and Lend together, simply because Lend is so understanding, rational, and selfless that I can’t picture Evie being with anyone else.

The introduction of several new characters is also worth mentioning. One character in particular, Jack, was seemingly so annoying at first that I didn’t realize until the book was almost over that he had conned his way into becoming my favorite character. He definitely was one of those personalities that grew on you—he was annoying, but in a completely adorable, hilarious way that reminded me so much of a trickster, like Loki or Puck.

Evie’s rather unique powers play a large role in the book. I can’t say much without spoiling it, but I was quite intrigued by her connection with the big bad from the first book. Once again, I feel like the major let-down of the book was its anticlimactic ending. It was abrupt and I didn’t really feel like it was part of something bigger. I think that that is something that Ms. White needs to work on as a writer, because there wasn’t enough closure and I felt really underwhelmed after all of this build-up.

The second installment in a fun series, Supernaturally is a breezy read that keeps you engaged with the characters and not too worried about heavy details of the plot or character development. That’s not a bad thing—in fact, it keeps the storytelling moving along at a fast clip. The introduction of the new characters injected some much-needed life into the story, and the inclusion of some darker aspects made the book, and its characters, seem more mature with their experiences.

So it took me quite a while to finish this as I found the storyline not too appealing. I'm really glad that I trudged on because it got much better in the end! I'm really excited to listen to the conclusion. ...more

Sooo good. So the main character has a twin, and could have ended up evil... hmmm this looks like a plot twist! Ofcourse I read it for the relationship of the guy and the girl ;)
