First impressions: Wow. The first few chapters of this book are gorgeous. Gemma is a feisty 16 British girl living in India with her parents, and witnesses the tragic death of her mother under mysterious circumstances she has a difficult time processing. We don't know what Gemma saw, but it was scary and strange and compelling.

I really want to give this book 3.5 stars, but since I am willing to read the next book in this triology, I will give it 4 stars. I thought the characters were really interesting and I appreciate the fact that the author presented modern-day teen problems (self-mutilation, self-esteem issues, etc.) to these Victorian teens. I would have actually given this 2.5 Stars, but 2 stars is just as well. I wasnt' convinced with the whole story line and I think there are huge parts that were under developed and some that were over developed. I am not sure if I will read the others.
