Neil Gaiman is one of my favorite authors. I haven't disliked anything he has written.
This was no different.
Every word in this very short book is intentional and serves the story. Every phrase is dipped in imagination, dripping with magic. I got exactly the feel I want and usually get while reading Gaiman, so I have no complaints.
Also, I listened to the audiobook, which is read by Gaiman himself, while reading the physical book and would highly recommend that method of experiencing this story. ...more

For an English teacher this is painful to admit, but I liked the movie better. The book lacked good pacing and the characters were somewhat blah. I couldn't figure out why the two main characters would fall in love except that they were supposed to. The movie also added a great deal of humor that was not in the book.

I learned that movies and books can't be compared. I also learned that movies mostly make the plot more romantic and idyllic than the writer of the book wanted to.
