I enjoyed reading from a food taster instead of reading fantasies from princess, prince, king or queen so this was different.
Yelena jailed for killing a General's son. After 1 year she's given the choice to be the Commander's food taster.
With people in the castle not liking she's alive and friends of the General she's always watching her back.

The concept of this book is very interesting, the characters likable and easy to relate to. The main character, Yelena, is impulsive and brave, stubborn and feisty. I couldn't always relate to her way of thinking or the things that she did throughout this book series. But overall I like her and I did want her to find peace in her life. The whole book is one big adventure after another, leading her back home to a family that she didn't know she had. And the love interest choice was unusual. After

It’s about a 4.5 stars read.
It started a bit slow but picked up quite well closer to the end. I’ve definitely got some Throne of Glass Vibes. Considering this was written way earlier it’s nice.

I really enjoyed this book. We are going to use this book for our next book club book. The closer to the end you got the more you had to keep reading. I am going to have to find the next 2 in this series and read them too.
