I tend to find, with trilogies, that the 2nd book always seems to lack. Lack in plot progression, character development, and so forth. When I picked up the second book in the Winner's Trilogy I hoped that would not be the case, since the first book Winner's Crime was fast paced and had surprises around every corner. Unfortunately this book suffered from Second Book Syndrome (if you don't know what that is - you should definitely look it up...it's a real thing people!)

Finally got to get into this book! I've been wanting to read it for a while and made time to read the series. So, I'm reading the book really getting into it... the ending comes and although it feels like a complete book, there is a sort of cliffie ending to it. No probs. The library has the next book... THAT WAS ALREADY CHECKED OUT! Oh person who has this book... you are killing me!

As for this book... we start right after the first book ended. It didn't take me long to get back into this world

I enjoy Kestral & Arin. I don't think they were quite as smart in this book as in the first book. I'm not sure if the author was going for a blinded-by-love vibe or a the emperor-is-smarter vibe, but I saw the ending coming. Still, a very enjoyable read and I can't wait for book three to be published!

Appropriate for middle and high school students.
