When I borrowed this book from the library I thought it was from the Percy Jackson series. i guess I didn't look closely at the title. I was disappointed at first. But as I kept reading I found myself really enjoying the story. Riordan keeps his demigods theme by introducing Jason, Leo, and Piper as teenagers who are caught up in the world of the gods. Here is another story involving mythology and demigods. While Riordian comes up with a fresh story, I find that it is a little too predictable if you have read any of his other books. Not necessarily a bad thing as the book does draw your attention. I will most likely read the rest of the series. It is basically hero gets to camp, realizes he has awesome power and strength, gets sent on quest, beats up bad monsters, goes back to camp and it starts over. Jessica (Books: A true story)
I loved the mixing of Roman and Greek mythology. It takes Percy Jackson up a notch. There's more love stories going on and I liked the deep thoughts about the power of love and how Aphrodite was one of the first Greek gods born. If you haven't read the Percy Jackson series, this will definitely spoil the whole series for you but to me, it didn't seem like it was necessary for you to read the Percy Jackson series first if you don't want to. Such a good book! Loved the way the Roman and Greek Mythology are getting intertwined. Going to start book 2 after a brief break from mythology!
