Classic piece on mestizo/Chican@ identity. For folks like myself who are more "hard" readers, it requires a bit of a mental shift to read the discussion below the surface of the text, which is often very simple but graping with deep issues of gender, race, language, power, identity and more. Key is her notions of dual/multiple consciousness as a woman, Chicana and lesbian. I used excerpts for a high school summer class which brought me into the text, but I'm still waiting to hear what the respon ...more
