My least favourite Austen so far. Although I loved Elinor, I didn't care much for any of the love interests for her and Marianne. The last quarter of the book dragged somewhat, and the resolution didn't leave me with the warm feelings I was hoping it would. The writing is amazing on a sentence-level, and her characterisations are amusing as ever, but her later works are a lot more polished and tighter in execution. ...more

I confess it, I am not an Austen fan. I can see why people love her books. The stories are great as ideas but the way they are told leaves something lacking for me. I get tired of the social politics after a while. But, yes, the stories are good.

Marianne and Elinor, two sisters and best of friends, are forced to move from their home after the death of their father.
They move some distance away and meet many new people and it is soon generally believed that Marianne has fallen in love.

Austen's first published novel, Sense and Sensibility , depicts the life of two Dashwood sisters, the rational Elinor and the passionate Marianne, as they experience the joys and the grieves caused by love.

While I appreciate the idea behind this book, I still find it severely lacking the charms and sensible plot that made Pride and Prejudice interesting, readable and a more humourous read. The eloquent language is no doubt beautiful and the sparse social commentaries are certainly intrig
