I was not expecting to like this book as much as I did. The blurb makes it look like a simple romance story, when in fact it's much more along the lines of The Giver and other classic dystopian fictions than a light and fluffy romance.
Cassia is a simple girl raised in an extremely restricted world. When she is Matched to her best friend, Xander, she thinks this is proof that everything the Society promises is true. Everything is as it should be, and they really do know what is best for everyone. ...more

I can't stop hovering between 2 and 3 stars. It's beautifully written in some parts but nothing really grabs you in and holds your attention.
Cassia's Grandfather and his storyline had the potential to be something great, and I think it was the snippets of memories around him that kept me reading.

They are quite different, although similar at the same time. The main focus of this is the fact that you are matched to your perfect guy according to your genetics of something, and that idea is fascinating in itself. but the first half of the book is set

I really liked this book and can't wait to read the next one (I have to wait until November though!). It reminded me a lot of the Hunger Games where the government completely controls it's citizens and there is a love triangle. I did think Hunger Games was more suspenseful but I couldn't put this book down either.

the tween book of summer. what initially seemed destined to annoy me (the premise so obvious, naive character drawn to two different boys, etc etc) has been expertly reintroduced. the "Society" is threatening and doomed, the conflict twists, and the characters bloom into interesting and believable people. I was absolutely pleased with the story, enough to immediately start the next in the series, which has only deepened my respect for the writer and the tale.
