Whitcoull's Top 100 Books: Demon Copperhead - No. 39

This is a depressing tale of addiction, poverty and abandonment. This is the tale of Demon Copperhead, a young boy as he moves through his life to adulthood.

I found this difficult to read, because it was difficult for Demon to get a break and when he did he wasn't prepared for it "good things" to happen in his life. He made mistakes, but in the end he did manage to survive growing up in 21st century Appalachia.

Awesome! Epic! Demon Copperhead was born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer. When his mother dies, Demon is thrown into foster care. His journey is heart breaking, yet hopeful. Kingsolver's writing is beyond describing. So poignant, I devoured every word.
