I had read David Copperfield this year in order to read this and I think that enhanced my reading. This was a powerful book about the opioid crisis in the Appalachia and better than the book it was inspired by IMHO. It wasn't perfect. Parts and characters that annoyed me in the Dickens' novel still annoyed me in this. The parts that were original to this novel and the author I very much enjoyed. ...more

Whitcoull's Top 100 Books: Demon Copperhead - No. 39

This is a depressing tale of addiction, poverty and abandonment. This is the tale of Demon Copperhead, a young boy as he moves through his life to adulthood.

I found this difficult to read, because it was difficult for Demon to get a break and when he did he wasn't prepared for it "good things" to happen in his life. He made mistakes, but in the end he did manage to survive growing up in 21st century Appalachia.

Another novel that makes me grate ...more
