Though much of the context is dated - mix tapes, record stores (all gone), kids smoking on school campuses - the emotional life of Charlie, a high school freshmen, is not unfamiliar territory.

Wow. There was a LOT crammed into those 146 pages, but then adolescence isn't the easiest of passages for even the most well adjusting teenager and Charlie had a lot of things to deal with.

Lots of thought provoking material from a super quick and engaging read.

Conundrum. I would have given this book three stars if I hadn't spent half the novel wondering wtf was wrong with this kid, but if I had found out any earlier then I'm not sure the story would have kept my interest so long. ...more
