What Members Thought
I enjoyed this book somewhat, however with so much hype I thought it was going to be much better. This is the kind of book that you know exactly what’s going to happen in the second half from the first half. The writing was well done, but I just wasn’t really interested in the story, or the characters. There wasn’t enough substance to hold on to.
This was not an easy listen for me because I kept falling asleep. Seriously, I would end up at the end of the audiobook and realize I could not remember what had just happened. I had ideas from other conversations with other readers about what happened and so I don't feel I totally missed out. However, how many times should I listen only to know the ending and a bit about the characters and just end up enjoying a nap? I connected with this one for a number of reasons and that’s why I liked it so much:
1. It was nostalgic for me. I can vividly remember Gap bags with drawstrings while mall shopping and cK one. Mighty Mighty Bosstones playing in their high school and Ricki Lake after school are so familiar to me.
2. The teenagers were so familiar to me. She really nailed their behavior and the way they talked.
3. The commentary about motherhood was so enthralling. What makes a mother? Who deserves to be a mother ...more
