Excellent depictions of the different generations involved as well as British life. Colourful characterizations and descriptive settings situated me in the story. I loved it. Amazing debut, I'll definitely be watching for more from Helen Simonson... ...more

This book was outside the genre I normally read but I was totally captivated from the first page. The major is adorable, as is Mrs Ali and the cast of characters keeps one turning the page. A quiet book, beautifully written and well worth second and third reads.

What a drab book! The book has nothing new to offer in neither plot or narration or background.The story was nothing new,, the treatment same.
At many times I kept on wondering how on earth this book was on my list!
