4.5 stars? Maybe. A solid four, anyhow.
We all need books like this in our reading lives. I think of this as the equivalent of a chick-flick, but I wouldn't call it chick-lit. It's heavier than chick-lit. It deals with some pretty serious stuff. But it was funny and I really enjoyed it. Also, it was flipping impossible to put down. So I thank my husband for bringing me dinner so I could finish it all in one go. This is the kind of book you just don't want to put down, so have food made before yo ...more

I liked this book - I really did and would give it 3.5 stars if I could. I think I went in with too high expectations though. I absolutely loved Sorta Like a Rock Star and thought I would love this book just as much. There was great character development and towards the end I was completely engrossed trying to figure out "the real story." I'd be curious what the official psychiatric diagnosis was for Pat, although that might have detracted from the story. I am probably one of the few people on t

Why did I even read this book? It's a rom-com book (if Pat had been a girl, it will be shelved as chick-lit), it contains a lot of American football (and I hate all kinds of sport story), and Pat Peoples is dumb (I know he's supposed to be crazy, but had he always been this dumb even before he went crazy?). It contains so many elements that would have chased me away from other books. So why did I pick it up, read it and finished it?

This is one of those books that gets all sorts acclaim and people love. While I didn't hate the book I sure didn't love it either. My first issues were the charactets. I didn't feel anything for them. not love or hate. nothing. I had no vested interest in the outcome in their lives. I had a hard time following their motivations. I didn't believe they would or act the way they did. Even when given disclosure I felt disatisfied. who I did like was cliff therapist. He is an ideal for a therapist I

3.5 stars. The confusion and mystery surrounding Pat's injury and the circumstance that led him to be in "the bad place" made my brain go into psychological thriller mode. Maybe there wasn't a Nikki at all. Maybe Tiffany's dead husband is really Pat. Maybe it's all figment of his imagination. So although this book was good and I had a hard time putting it down, it wasn't the exciting psychological thriller ending that I had created in my head. And I think I liked my ending better. I'm looking fo

"Life is hard, Pat, and children have to be told how hard life can be."
"Why?"
"So they can be sympathetic to others. So they will understand that some people have it harder than they do and that a trip through this world can be a wildly different experience, depending on what chemicals are raging through one's mind."
I read this as the third and final book for my challenge this year of a book that was later translated to film. ...more

Can't believe I liked this book in 2009... and obviously didn't remember reading it then, but by page 100 I was over it.
